Want to experience a different kind of golfing vacation? Why not take a global vacation and try the golf courses that are so famous that they attract golfers from all around the world. Put any one of these golf courses on your itinerary. Instead of just seeing these places on TV, you get to experience playing a few holes, the same holes that world golf champions play.
Below are some of the most famous foreign golf courses.
St. Andrews Old Course in Scotland
One of the world’s oldest and most revered golf courses, St. Andrews Old Course is often referred to as the “home of golf.” It certainly deserves this title, and it is treasured by professional golfers and amateurs alike. This golf course can be played any level, yet pros still find the course enticing and challenging. You will never be bored or find the holes impossible, no matter at what golf level you are. Although every hole takes good strategy and shot making, even beginners can give their tee a try on this professional course and not be overwhelmed.
Wentworth in Surrey, England
Developer Walter George Tarrant built this golf course shortly following the end of World War I. After the war, he recognized that Europe needed to move on to more peaceful activities like playing golf. In 1924, the nearly 7,000 yards of golf course with three 18-hole was opened. Up to now, this golf course is still famous for its associations with professional golf, and their club holds the headquarters of the PGA European tour. Wentworth was also the venue of the 1953 Ryder Club.
Sunnydale in Surrey, England
Sunnydale is a beautiful course set on the Surrey sand belt just like its neighbor, Wentworth. Around the turn of the 20th century, the land owned by St. John’s College in Cambridge was developed into a golf course. The course’s first professional golfer was Jack White and since World War II, they have hosted the British Masters a total of four times.
The Valle del Este and Desert Springs in Spain’s Almeria
Another golfing mecca is Spain. When you golf in Almeria, the sand traps are real as you are actually playing in Spain’s only desert. The Valle del Este and Desert Springs are famous first class courses that are located in a dramatic desert landscape and with its near-perfect climate; you can play golf all year round.
